About The Role

EKFB is a joint venture that brings together international, market leading expertise from four leading civil engineering and construction companies: Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall. All four partners have specialist expertise in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks, including the construction of one of Europe’s latest high speed rail projects.

There is a requirement for experienced Environmental Consents Coordinators within both the Delivery and the Design Teams.  They will need to manage the environmental consenting regime for all works on the project including works to listed buildings under Schedule 18, Schedule 33 Part 4 & Part 5 for water-related consents, waste & noise consents and a large number of ecology consents.

The project is divided into five geographical sections, each of which to be assigned one Environmental Consents Coordinator whose responsibilities will include:

  • 5 no. Reporting in to the Section Environmental Manager and sitting within the Environment Team
  • ensuring compliance with legislation, HS2 Technical Standards & best practice
  • Identify, develop and manage consents within their Section
  • Ensure that consents are packaged up properly that are created by Designers (permanent and temporary works) and are of sufficient quality to be submitted to the Consent Granting Bodies (CGBs).
  • Assist the Environmental Section Manager in establishing an approach to consenting which is consistent route wide (C23)
  • Establish strong relationships with the Design Team, Delivery Team and CGBs.
  • Build strong interfaces with relevant HS2 team members, the Early Works Contractor, and the Permanent Works Consent team.
  • To work in conjunction with the Planning teams and Design Delivery teams to follow a consents schedule, regularly reporting progress, both for internal and external stakeholders. Ensure that the dates required to develop, package, consult on, and submit consents are built in to the design and delivery programmes.
  • Create an appropriate consent package incorporating design information from EKFB temporary works designers and the delivery team. Complete the relevant application forms and register the package in the Master Information Delivery Programme ready for assurance by a colleague prior to submission to HS2 prior to submission to the consent granting body
  • Set up and eventually Chair meetings such as regular interface meetings and pre-application meetings with the CGBs
  • Meet with the wider consents team to ensure consistency
  • To support other environmental activities that may be required as reasonably demanded by the Section Environmental Manager.
  • Increase environmental awareness within the wider team.


About You

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the management of consents and the application of environmental legislation for large scale infrastructure projects in the UK.
  • An understanding of the engineering/construction requirements and methodology of a large construction scheme
  • Flexibility, adapting methods and approach as necessary
  • Full UK Driving licence
  • Be meticulous in checking detail whilst recognising delivery priorities, programme need and the anticipated volume of work
  • Working under deadline pressures
  • Have excellent inter-personal skills and be able to develop and maintain good relationships and networks
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience of influencing and negotiating with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders and the ability to extract key points and communicate this to others.
  • Degree in an Environmental or Engineering discipline desirable.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body working towards chartered status
  • Use GIS to record/map consents
  • Qualification in engineering/ environment or other relevant field at degree [or similar] level
  • A minimum of 3 years working in a similar role – preferably on infrastructure projects
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership
  • Current CSCS card holder
  • Capable of using GIS systems and MS Office productivity packages

A minimum of 3 years EIA experience (Environmental Design Compliance Coordinators)
